Methodically, religiously compiled data was fed into computers and moulded into new playable versions of Grand Prix Legends. A texture here, some tyre data there it trickled in. Resources were pooled from around the world. One contributor, Arturo Perreira, gained access to the Argentinean Automobile Club in Buenos Aires to absorb its complete library, including nearly 1,000 back-issues of Motorsport magazine, searching for relevant references. They lurked, with cameras, tape measures and reporter’s notebooks at historic car shows. Over the next three years a cast of hundreds threw their weight into the project. Reality is much harder than videogames-harder to play and harder to sell.
#GRAND PRIX LEGENDS 2 FULL#
We weren’t being fed some lowest common denominator product of car licences and a face full of marketing hype. Straying from the brief of total simulation to game would violate the stubborn doctrine of Grand Prix Legends. Their obsession and passion epitomised in this excerpt from an interview with racing legend and Mini Cooper deity, John Cooper: “Were the pedals bottom or top hinged?” “They were always bottom hinged.” The level of detail and research required by this amateur team still astonishes and would humble the works of many a professional game developer. The community harnessed the code and set about making ‘Grand Prix Legends of 1965’. Fury and outrage was usurped by the wail of swapped engine noise.

Too late to close Pandora’s Box, engine swapping became accepted as honest customisation (so long as you were honest when using it) and new online classes developed: Formula Libre (any car-any chassis), FG (F1 car-small F3 engine) and so on. Rather than turning corners, people turned backs. Words were exchanged with his mum and feuds continued within the community. Concerned though not overly alarmed, Thurston managed to electronically track the perpetrator and acquire his phone number. “I did receive death threats,” admits Thurston. The unhackable had been ‘back-doored’ by curious coders. The purity of the sport had been sullied. Inquisitiveness won and Thurston created ‘GEM’ engine modification software that enabled a Grand Prix Legends user to swap engines and chassis in the game’s front end. Nunn and Thurston understood the possibilities and the repercussions.
#GRAND PRIX LEGENDS 2 INSTALL#
Nb: You'll need GEM+ installed before you install the '65 and '69 Mods. Now, it’s simple logic that a significant advantage can be gained by splicing the engine of a more powerful car into a lighter chassis.
#GRAND PRIX LEGENDS 2 MODS#
Your install will be fully functional, and will be ready to happily accept the installation of GEM+ and the wonderful mods available for GPL if that's something you want to do. So we've decided to leave the choice of Monaco updates that you want to use up to you.
#GRAND PRIX LEGENDS 2 UPDATE#
We have not installed updates for Monaco however, as there are several update packages available (most notably perhaps is the "Monaco Rocks" update) that have different performances on various systems. You'll have the excellent GPLEA cars, and the most popular, historically accurate track updates from various artists for ten of the original eleven Papyrus tracks. If you use the GPLPS GPL Installer, when you're done you will have a working GPL 1.2.0.2 version with the Carsound, latest D3D/OpenGL rasterisers, and the Bandwidth patches applied. This program will solve all those problems with a simple, user-friendly interface. Then there are the requests for better-looking graphics for the cars and the tracks. And of course there are some of the common installation setup problems.

We've all read the comments in the forums in our community where a racer is asking "what downloads do I need?" and "what order do I put them in?". Quote :The GPLPS GPL Installer was built with the idea of simplifying the somewhat complicated process of installing GPL. It makes it a very simple process for a new user (or an old user who's had to start from scratch for whatever reason).
#GRAND PRIX LEGENDS 2 PATCH#
The GPLPS thingy is to patch a clean CD install of GPL to get it ready to use straight away. The 2004 demo's patched the right way but you can't use it online (iirc).
